Trendy hardwood styles join traditional styles in the marketplace

Opting for hardwood, a traditional flooring choice does not mean that your home must have a traditional look. Hardwood flooring trends are anything but conventional. Trendy shades from different ends of the color spectrum dominate the marketplace. White and black are in vogue, and so are neutral light colors like beige, cream, and light gray. Similarly, charcoal, dark walnut, and ebony are on the list of popular stains for wood floors. Family owned and operated Huron Carpet & Floor covering in Wixom, Michigan, offers a wide variety of the latest hardwood flooring styles. We have brands that appeal to every taste.

Unfinished solid wood

Raw wood can be brought into the home and finished on-site. The ‘old-fashioned' method of installation is still the best option available. Boards fit together tightly, and seams are well sealed. The floor, which has a flush look, is a structural enhancement as well as an investment that will pay off when the home is sold. It takes installers one week to sand, stain, and seal the floor and one additional week for the floor to acclimate to its surroundings.

Prefinished solid wood

Prefinished solid wood flooring is finished in the factory, meaning installation can be completed in one day rather than one week. As with unfinished wood, boards are nailed to a wood subfloor. The floor has a beveled look with this type of flooring covering. Finish warranties are usually longer for prefinished hardwood brands since on-site installers don't typically have access to the same strong sealers that factories use.

Engineered wood

Engineered wood flooring has a plywood base and a hardwood surface. While the floor looks the same as solid wood floors, it resists moisture because of the crisscross construction of the plywood layers that make up the base. Further, these man-made boards are usually designed to connect at the edges so the floor can be constructed to float over the subfloor. Therefore, this wood flooring can be installed in more locations in the home than solid wood.
