Waterproof flooring installation in a Walled Lake, MI home

Can flooring truly be waterproof?

Yes, it can, but you need to be clear on the definition to know what you are getting. Waterproof floors are impenetrable and made of waterproof materials, such as porcelain tile's nonporous clay, Kaolin; vinyl; or the WPC (wood plastic composite) or SPC (stone plastic composite) cores.

The product is waterproof from bottom to top, meaning that it can be submerged or spilled on, and it will be fine. Water-resistant, however, suggests that while a product repels spills, that capability is only active for a short time; if not wiped quickly, the liquid can break a barrier and soak to the core.

What is waterproof flooring?

When it comes to waterproof flooring options, this offers the ultimate moisture protection. Sometimes referred to as waterproof vinyl flooring, this is a newer, more advanced version of the luxury version (LVF). It is thicker, more durable, and uses the WPC or SPC cores that won't peel or ripple ever, no matter how much water there is or for how long.

As an example, a neighbor spends part of the year in another state. He came home to a dishwasher flood. Who knows when it happened? The bottom line is that he wiped it dry, and it was fine.

High-end style

This has all the same design elements as LVF, with true-to-life images of wood, stone, and tile. The images are taken with 3D photography, so they're clear and vibrant, and the floors are micro-beveled and embossed for depth, dimension, and textured appearances. These can be cut into boards to mimic hardwood planks or groutable squares to echo stone and tile; this adds to the realism.

The waterproof abilities make it an excellent choice for wet areas like the kitchen or bath, but it works just as well in living and dining spaces and bedrooms. We all know accidental spills, toppled glasses, and overturned cups happen anywhere!

Like LVF, it's easy to clean with just a daily sweeping and periodic mopping. Installation can be a floating floor where the pieces click together, mat, and hover over the subfloor without nails or glue.
